Kia EV3 (2024): All the details about the interior and equipment

With the EV3, Kia is bringing a new model to a popular segment that demonstrates the innovative power and technology of the Korean electric car family. The ratio of interior volume to exterior dimensions is particularly impressive. Despite its compact dimensions, the EV3 offers a spacious interior space – a merit of its modern E-GMP platform.

The design follows the design philosophy of "Opposites United" and combines seemingly contradictory elements into a harmonious whole. Practicality, load volume and a sustainable approach, for example through the use of recycled materials, characterize the EV3. But let's now take a detailed look at the interior ...

The dashboard

The first glance in the interior inevitably falls on the dashboard, which comes up with a 30-inch widescreen display. This houses three separate screens: one for the instruments in front of the driver, one for the infotainment on the far right and a smaller screen for climate control in between.

With its decision to continue to make climate control accessible via permanently displayed controls, Kia is relying on an exciting contrast to the current industry trend. User-friendliness is clearly in the foreground.

The EV3's on-board technologies include wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, streaming and OTA updates directly from Kia, and a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. In addition, the Digital Key 2.0 makes it possible to use the smartphone as a car key and to control certain functions of the vehicle remotely.

Materials and workmanship

The interior of the EV3 looks simple, but still well thought-out. Recycled materials and a homely ambience characterise the design. Chief designer Karim Habib and his team have designed the front seats in such a way that they can be leaned back as if in a lounge – ideal for relaxed breaks. In detail, however, there is a bit of a lack of high-quality materials. However, the workmanship is quite high, as is typical for Korea.

Since the gear control is located behind the steering wheel, a lot of space between driver and front passenger could be realized. The flat floor and compact body create generous storage space and create an airy feeling of space. The design of the dashboard and door panels combines horizontal and vertical elements, giving the interior a dynamic and balanced look

Spaciousness and trunk

With a length of 4.30 meters, the Kia EV3 seems to be somewhere between a B-SUV and a true compact model, but the space is definitely in the second category. The interior is airy, cozy and accessible, and the cargo space starts at a minimum volume of 460 liters, which increases to 1,251 liters with the rear seat backrests fully folded down. In addition, there is a 25-liter compartment under the front hood.

The rear passengers have a vertical distance from the seat to the ceiling of 955 mm and almost the same legroom (950 mm). At the front, these dimensions increase to 1,015 and 1,060 mm respectively. If you add the overall width of over 1.85 meters, you can comfortably travel in the Kia EV3 with five people and, if necessary, relax with entertainment options (almost) like at home.

Kits

The equipment is called AirEarth and GT-line. Even the basic Air version is richly equipped. In addition to the two large displays, 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, light and rain sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, a reversing camera and parking beepers at the front and rear are standard. Seat heating is only available as an option in the basic version (in the recommended P1 winter package for 1,000 euros, together with steering wheel heating and heat pump).

In the Earth version, seat and steering wheel heating (but not the heat pump) are standard for an additional 2,300 euros. In addition, a digital key is added, which means that you can use the smartphone as a key. Inductive charging for mobile phones and door handles at the front "with automatic flush function" will also be on board.

More Kia from other parts of the world:

In addition to various design elements and a special center console, the top-of-the-range GT-line version offers 19-inch wheels as standard, which, however, reduce the range by 20 to 40 km. There are also leatherette seat covers, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a Harman Kardon sound system, a sensor-controlled tailgate, the heat pump and vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging.

Optional options for the GT-line include an electrically adjustable front passenger seat, the aforementioned "premium relaxation seats", front seat ventilation, heated rear seats, an electrically operated glass sunroof and a head-up display. The latter is part of a package called P8 (DriveWise Park Pro package for 1,290 euros).
